Top Ten Books We Liked Less Than Everyone Else

Top Ten Tuesday
(Images link to Goodreads, Titles link to Amazon using Amazon Affiliate links)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in which you make a list of ten to do with a certain topic.  This week’s topic is “Ten Books I Loved Less/More Than I Thought I Would (recently or all time) — or you could do something like books I liked more/less than everyone else.”  We’re going with Top Ten Books We Liked Less Than Everyone Else.

Curly Carla’s Top Ten:

I’m doing books I liked less than everyone else.  I picked these books because my rating is less than the overall rating of them on GR and Amazon.

  1. Remember Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram. I barely finished this book.  See my review here.
  2. The Lilith Scroll by B. L. Marsh. I couldn’t even finish this book.  See my review here.
  3. Lightning in my Wake by Lila Felix. I’m hit or miss with her books, this one was a miss.
  4. Revelation by Randi Cooley Wilson. Too slow for me.  See my review here.
  5. Dream of Me by Quinn Loftis. I just wasn’t feeling this one.
  6. Bully by Penelope Douglas. I have a love hate relationship with this series.  See my review here.
  7. Chance by A.C. Heller. Oh boy, I did not like this book.
  8. A Tragic Wreck by T.K. Leigh.
  9. Love and Hate by Chelsea Ballinger.
  10. Anna by Julia Crane.

Lenoreo’s Top Ten:

This topic kind of reminded me of a Top Ten Tuesday we did last year, Top Ten Characters Everyone Loves That I Just Don’t Get.  So I didn’t want this to get repetitive, so I tried to pick some different ones.  I do have a few in here where it’s not that I didn’t like the book, I just expected to 5 star it like my friends, only I didn’t.

  1. Neanderthal Seeks Human (Knitting in the City #1) by Penny Reid — This is the one that pains me the most, b/c I felt like I was missing out on the Penny Reid club, and I really wanted to be in that club.  (Thankfully I finally found my Penny Reid gem just earlier this year)  See my review here.
  2. Don’t Speak (A Modern Fairytale) by Katy Regnery — I adore Ms. Regnery, and this was my first foray into her contemporary fairytale retellings, and when I wasn’t blown away I was sooooo sad.  Especially since it’s been getting fabulous reviews.  See my review here.
  3. The Stocking Was Hung (The Holidays #1) by Tara Sivec — I know this author is really popular, but I apparently don’t have the right sense of humour.  See my review here.
  4. Nine Minutes (Nine Minutes #1) by Beth Flynn — This book is extremely popular, but I just ended up feeling conflicted over it, and still haven’t read anymore in the series and probably won’t.
  5. Kaleidoscope Hearts (Hearts #1) by Claire Contreras — Another book that is really hyped, but I was just underwhelmed.  See my review here.
  6. Sweet Home (Sweet Home #1) by Tillie Cole — Yup, you guessed it, another book that is loved by so many, and this one REALLY disappointed me.  I’ve maybe been convinced to try the next in the series, but this one just aggravated me.  See my review here.
  7. Love and Decay: Season Two by Rachel Higginson — This one broke my heart because I adore this author, but season two was very up and down for me, and I haven’t gotten back to the series since.  See my review for volume 3, volume 4, and volume 5.
  8. Reaper’s Property (Reapers MC #1) by Joanna Wylde — This is the book that showed me that apparently I’m not an MC book kind of girl.  See my review here.
  9. Taking Shots (Assassins #1) by Toni Aleo — Another really popular hockey series, and it just did not work for me.  See my review here.
  10. Cheater (Curious Liaisons #1) by Rachel Van Dyken — And this one is kind of like the Tara Sivec book…it wasn’t the cheating that really turned me off, it was the over the top humour.  See my review here.

So how about you guys?  What books did you not enjoy as much as everyone else?  Are you shocked by any on our lists?

  • There’s Something About Nik by Sara Hantz from Entangled: Crush (Entangled Publishing, LLC) — released February 13th, 2017.  Entangled was super nice and offered me this book on release day.  See my review here.
  • Forever Mine (Opposites Attract #2) by Erin Nicholas from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) — releases March 28th, 2017.  I read the first book in this series through NetGalley, and so was offered the opportunity to request this book and I took it.  I enjoy the geeky aspects of the heroines.  See my review of book one here.

ARCs from Authors/PR Companies:

  • Operation Prom Date (Tactics in Flirting #1) by Cindi Madsen — releases March 13th, 2017.  No preorder link yet.  Super excited for this one, it sounds adorbs.
  • Objects in Mirror by Tudor Robins — previously released and now being rereleased.  It sounds like a fabulous and heartbreaking book.

 Got It On Sale:

  • Taboo for You (Friends to Lovers #1) by Anyta Sunday — This one was all Curly Carla’s fault.  She posted about this one being free on our page, and so I had to one-click.  I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by this author so far.  Still free!
  • The Cad and the Co-Ed (Rugby #3) by L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid — I’ve only read the first in this series, and actually wasn’t blown away.  But I’m curious about the rest.  So when I saw in Penny Reid’s newsletter that this book was on a release sale of $2.99 from its regular $4.99 until February 17th, I figured I’d nab it.  Unfortunately that means it’s no longer on sale.  Both of these authors will be at the Big Apple Author Event in October 2017 that I will be attending.
  • Keeping Mr. Right Now (Kisses in the Sand #1) by Robin Bielman — Another eReaderIQ alert because I’m watching this author’s books, and this one went on sale for 99 cents from its regular $2.99 so I snatched it up.  A surfer and a klutzy bookworm?  Yup, that sounds like a Lenore book.  Still on sale!

  • Pillowtalk by Cassie Mae from Loveswept (Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept) — releases April 4th, 2017.  I was actually able to read an early version of this book last fall and Aaron is seriously swoontastic.  I can’t wait to read the final version and swoon all over again.
  • Dancing in the Rain by Kelly Jamieson from Loveswept (Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept) — releases April 11th, 2017.  I’ve seen some bloggers talking about this author and how much they love her hockey books.  So when I saw her name, I figured why not give her writing a chance!

ARCs from Authors/PR Companies:

33222262

  • Don’t Speak (A Modern Fairytale) by Katy Regnery from L. Woods PR — releases February 27th, 2017.  I have not had a chance to read her other Modern Fairytale stories, but she’s an author I love for her other contemporary romances, so I’m looking forward to this take on The Little Mermaid.  She’s another author I’m hoping to meet in May at Romancing the Falls.

New Releases:

sweettea_finalcover

  • Sweet Tea and Summer Love by Regan Claire — I actually had the privilege of beta reading this mature YA, and so obviously I wanted the final copy for my Kindle.  Review coming soon!

 Got It On Sale:

  • Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway — I’ve seen this one recommended by bloggers, and I’ve been intrigued.  So when I saw it was on sale in one of my The Rock Stars of Romance emails, I went for it.  Still on sale for $1.99 I think.
  • Beaus & Arrows: A Collection of Sweet and Sexy Stories by Various Authors — I bought this one solely for Rebecca Yarros’s short story about Bash’s proposal.  And quite frankly, it’s only 99 cents and the proceeds go to Pennies-4-Paws!
  • The Fine Art of Pretending (The Fine Art of Pretending #1) and The Natural History of Us (The Fine Art of Pretending #2) by Rachel Harris — I’ve had these two books on my wishlist for a while, because they’ve been recommended by friends and authors I love.  So when I got an eReaderIQ alert that they were both on sale for $1.99 from their usual $4.49, I said yes please!  Still on sale!
  • Fake Fiancée by Ilsa Madden-Mills — This is a new release that is apparently on sale for 99 cents for a limited time (still on sale), and I think I saw a blog blitz on one of the blogs I follow, and also saw it on a TRSOR email, and since this author will be at the Big Apple Author Event in October 2017 that I will be attending, I figured why not?

  • Brightest Kind of Darkness by P.T. Michelle. Fantastic series.
  • Lucid (book 2 BKOD) by P.T. Michelle. I had to purchase these books again because I had borrowed them originally.

  • Off the Ice (Juniper Falls #1) by Julie Cross from Entangled: Teen (Entangled Publishing, LLC) — releases February 28th, 2017.  I read a book by this author in the fall and really enjoyed it (see review here), so seeing a young adult book by her through Entangled about hockey was all I needed to know.

ARCs from Authors/PR Companies:

  • A Boy Like You by Ginger Scott from Wordsmith Publicity — releases March 3rd, 2017.  I adore this author, and have no qualms signing up to get an early look at her books.  I preordered it too, b/c I’m that sure.  I’m hoping to meet her in May at Romancing the Falls.

 Got It On Sale:

  • Tapping the Billionaire (Bad Boy Billionaires #1) by Max Monroe — I saw this series raved about on one of the new blogs I follow, A Novel Glimpse.  So when BookBub told me it was free from its usual like $5+, I dove on top of that.  Still free!
  • Armored (The Té-trad Tale #1) by M.A. Wilder — I recently did a live video on our Facebook page talking about my Diversity Challenges, and was particularly looking for Indie or small-press books with a black main character.  Lillian @ Mom with a Reading Problem recommended this one, and since it was free I said YES PLEASE!  Still free!

  • Awaken (Brightest Kind of Darkness #5) by P.T. Michelle — Both Curly Carla and I have been waiting for the last book in this series for years it seems, and it’s finally here!  It’s a bit stretching my personal price range, but I know that authors rarely (if ever) put the final books in the series on sale, and since the author mentioned it was slightly cheaper for preorder and release day, I sucked it up.  Again, it’s NOT that I don’t think these books are worth this price, I’m just cheap.  It’s a personal flaw that has no bearing on the worthiness of the books.  🙂

 Got It On Sale:

23768413308272733062483631924514

  • Amour Amour (Aerial Ethereal #1) by Krista & Becca Ritchie — Ever since I read the first few books in the Addicted series by these authors last year, and met them both at the Emerald City Author Event, I’ve followed them.  And as such, eReaderIQ sent me a notice that this book was on sale for 99 cents from its usual $3.99.  Still on sale!
  • The Hard Count by Ginger Scott — I received and read an ARC of this book this summer, but I always like having a final copy in my hands, so when eReaderIQ told me it was on sale for 99 cents from its usual $3.99, I snatched it up.  See my review here if you want to know why you need to take advantage of this amazing sale as well (bonus points, it’s a diverse read!).
  • The Debt by Karina Halle — This author will be attending the Big Apple Author Event in October 2017 that I will be attending, and while I’ve only read part of her paranormal series, I keep an eye on her books.  So when I saw this one on BookBub for $1.99 (though I think I got it for 99 cents) from its usual close to $5, I one-clicked it!!  I’ve really been wanting to read her contemporary romances, so might as well grab them for a deal.  And this one is still on sale!
  • Chase the Sun (Free Fall #2) by Christina Lee & Nyrae Dawn — I *just* got an eReaderIQ alert that this book is on sale for 99 cents from its usual $3.99.  I ADORE Ms. Dawn, and have even had the privilege of beta reading for her once, so I’m always up for reading more of her books.  I haven’t read book one yet, but I already have it.  This must be a sale to celebrate book three coming out in February.

Top Ten Series We Want to Finish in 2017

Top Ten Tuesday
(Images link to Goodreads, Titles link to Amazon using Amazon Affiliate links)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in which you make a list of ten to do with a certain topic.  This week’s topic is “FREEBIE — that super specific list you want to make?? All yours to tackle this week!”  So Curly Carla came up with Top Ten Series We Want to Finish in 2017.

Curly Carla’s Top Ten:

Why haven’t I read them all? I have utterly no idea!  This year is my year to finish all these.

514yz9qelwl303693153013087520883154189668063220132028227548251007422466663729237222

  1. Brightest Kind of Darkness series by P.T. Michelle. I have literally been waiting YEARS for this series to finish. I’m on book 4 entitled Desire. I think I’m gonna go back and re-read since it’s been so long though.
  2. The Judgement of the Six series by Melissa Haag. I’m waiting on the last book titled (Sur)Real. I’m putting a lot of hope this will be finished this year, however according to Amazon there is no set release date.  (Note from Lenore: there also is no cover, so I just put the one for the first 3 book bundle)
  3. Vampire Girl series by Karpov Kinrade. I own all three books, I am currently on the second one entitled Midnight Star. This story is amazeballs.
  4. The Relentless series by Karen Lynch. I’m on book two entitled Refuge. The first one is perma free!
  5. Red Rising series by Pierce Brown. OMG this series has all the things!!! I own all three books. I am on the third one entitled Morning Star. It’s cheaper to get the paperback so that’s the link I’m leaving.
  6. How To series by Cassie Mae! I love CM. She has a soft spot in my heart for wonderful books. I have read almost all of them. In this series I am on book two entitled How to Seduce a Band Geek.
  7. War of the Princes series by A.R. Ivanovich. This series y’all. It’s got so much depth and love. I love it so much. I’m on book three entitled Monarch.
  8. Dirty Blood series by Heather Hildenbrand. I have been sitting on this a while also. I own them all but have just never finished it. Maybe I don’t want it to be over? I’m on the LAST book entitled Broken Blood.  I think I will have to re-read this one too. It’s been a long time.
  9. Imdalind series by Rebecca Ethington. I read the first four really fast. Then I stalled out on the fifth one because I didn’t know there were seven books in the series. So I waited till they were all available. I’m on the fifth book entitled Burnt Devotion.
  10. Brewer Brothers series by Nancy Straight. I have read most of her books and loved them all. Again I am sitting on the last book in the series entitled Shroud of Lies.

Lenoreo’s Top Ten:

I kind of wanted to put 1, 2, 7 and 9 of Curly Carla’s list on mine as well.  But I went for some different ones.  I wonder how many I’ll actually get through this year.

30367827309687502536168513581340178491123014512720485705315723242579881519412270

  1. GearShark series by Cambria Hebert.  I’ve read the first two, and am on to #Swag now.
  2. Hashtag series by Cambria Hebert.  I’ve read all but the last book, #Bae.
  3. The Winslow Brothers series by Katy Regnery.  I’ve only read the first of this series, but I’m meeting this author in May so I want to read as many of her books as possible before then.  I’m on book 2, Proposing to Preston.
  4. The Premonition series by Amy A. Bartol.  I tried to finish the series last year, but got distracted after book 3.  So I’m on to book 4, Incendiary.
  5. Penryn & the End of Days series by Susan Ee.  I read the first book a few years ago and ADORED it, and then just never finished the series.  I’m on book 2, World After.
  6. Grizzlies Gone Wild series by Kathy Lyons.  I received book 2 through NetGalley and caught up on book 1 afterwards.  I actually have an ARC of the last book, For the Bear’s Eyes Only, so I really need to finish this one!
  7. What Kills Me series by Wynne Channing.  I really enjoyed the first book and was delighted that it was a 2 book series, so I’m on the last book, I Am Forever.
  8. Fishing for Trouble series by Laura Drewry.  I’ve read the first two in this series, and have an ARC from NetGalley of the last book in the series, Catch and Release, which releases in February!
  9. Over the Top series by Kelly Siskind.  I’m reading this series in a weird order, so I’ve read the 2nd and 3rd books already and have the first book, My Perfect Mistake, left.
  10. The Noctalis Chronicles by Chelsea M. Cameron.  Another series I read quite a few years ago, but the last book wasn’t out at the time, and then I got distracted.  So I’m on the last book, Neverend.

Wish us luck!  For those of you series readers out there, what series do you hope to finish in 2017?
