Truth or Beard by Penny Reid

Truth or beardBlurb: Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!

Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level-headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life.

His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she’s never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…

But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica’s muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.

Certainly, Beau’s magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?

I love this cover!  This whole book was just a joy to read, from beginning to end.  There were no slow parts, no deliberate misunderstandings, and it really jumped right into the story with no info dump either.  But it wasn’t confusing going in with no back story though. It was delightful.  Of course, I didn’t really expect anything less from this author.

FYI: Cletus is mine!  I’ll eat his sausage any day!   (TMI?  Read the book, you’ll understand.)

I loved Duane.  His passion.  Ugh, so much passion!  His honor and want to do it the ‘right’ way.  Seriously, he is in the running for best book boyfriend.  Beau was a bit harder to read, and I wish we could have gotten a better depth from him.  But this isn’t his story,  I’m definitely interested in the other brothers stories.  I also loved Duane and Jessica’s banter.  The way they had deep talks peppered with passion and fire was just so…..::sigh::  Miss Reid kept the stomach swirling feelings constant.  I don’t know how she was able to do that, you’d have thought I would’ve got tired of it.  But, honestly, I didn’t.  I kept getting surprised when my heart would flutter so often.

Oh and location 5040 just about stopped my heart.  Of course after that I was able to predict the rest of the story but it didn’t make it less enjoyable. Ha, hows that for a non-spoiler!

Just, go read this book.

I wondered at the unfairness of his eyes.  He had such pretty eyes, blue and glittering, mesmerizing…it was a shame they belonged to Satan.

There’s a reason we eat popcorn during a movie.  If I want to zone out, be brainless and entertained, then I watch TV, got to a movie.  If I want a good story, then I read a book.

But work up an appetite, woman.  Because you’ve never tasted fine meat until you‘ve eaten my sausage.

I’d been an idiot. Jessica wasn’t going to break my heart.  I was going to break hers.

What I want to know is, why didn’t you come to me in the first place?  And also, how do you get these to be so darn fluffy?  It’s like eating a blueberry flavored cloud of awesome.

“You can’t rush a duct tape purchase.” In my rearview mirror I saw Cletus clutching the shopping bag to his chest.  “Duct tape is man’s answer to electrons and proton’s.  It’s how we keep matter together.

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

neanderthal seeks human.jpgSynopsis: There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris: 1) She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information), especially when she is unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan, and 3) She doesn’t know how to knit.

After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can’t help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan- aka Sir McHotpants- witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can’t afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn- the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies- to make her an offer she can’t refuse.

5 Stars!

First of all I love the name and I love the cover of this book too! It’s cute without being cheesy. And the title is a bit misleading. Read it and you will see why.

This story has a very slow build but the simmer of emotions is really well written, I didn’t get bored which sometimes I do with a slow simmer.  The interactions were original and funny without being to mainstream or overdone.  I really loved the quirkiness of Janie, I loved how she would throw out random factoids when she was nervous that had nothing to do with the conversation taking place at the time.  It was a tell of hers.  I loved her tallness, she was just very real.

Quinn understood her nervousness and had his own quirkiness. He was the strong silent type, standoffish but it wasn’t overdone.  And I enjoyed how they were open and honest about the path they would take in their relationship.  This book was great and I think there is a second book and I‘m totally gonna read it because I need to know what happens.
